Herniated discs, bone spurs or growths, and age-related disc degeneration can all be treated with spinal decompression therapy in Oxnard at Chiropractic Wellness Center. This treatment is safe, highly effective, and non-invasive, making it a great choice for many patients suffering from back pain and other issues.

What is spinal decompression therapy?

Spinal decompression therapy is a non-surgical treatment used to gently stretch out the spine. During treatment, the patient remains fully clothed and is fitted with harnesses around the pelvis and torso. They are then instructed to lie face up or face down on a motorized device called a traction table. The chiropractor will operate the traction table to gently stretch the spine according to the patient’s needs. A typical spinal decompression therapy session can last between 30 to 45 minutes, though it will depend on the patient’s unique needs and concerns.

Who is a good candidate for spinal decompression therapy?

Spinal decompression therapy can help patients dealing with a variety of pain and discomfort issues. If you are experiencing muscle weakness, numbness, tingling, or pain that seems to be getting worse or isn’t relieved by other treatments, spinal decompression therapy might be a good choice for you.

Good candidates for this treatment include people who are dealing with chronic lower back pain or neck pain, age-related disc degeneration, sciatica or disc herniation, or bone spurs that are compressing the sciatic nerve. People who should not undergo this treatment include people who are pregnant, have had failed back surgery, have broken vertebrae, have an artificial disc or spinal implant, have undergone spinal fusion, or have had multiple surgeries without improvement.

Is this treatment painful?

A lot of patients wonder if spinal decompression therapy will be painful and are pleased to hear that the answer is no—it is not painful. Many patients find treatment to be quite relaxing and even doze off during their appointments. Some patients experience mild tenderness, pain, or achiness up to 24 hours after their session, but the treatment itself is not painful.
